I cannot agree more about the writer's comments on Johnson and Sunak. Johnson was incompetent, self-serving and a liability to this country. Sunak seemed interested only in looking after his extremely wealthy friends. In other words, to hell with the "little people" - but it's those "little people" who were, and remain, the ones most affected by Johnson and Sunak's actions while in power.
Those two left a legacy of a failing Britain but the ones who would suffer would, again, by the "little people".
But what can we do? It's a hopeless situation. I thought a Labour government would try and fix things but it's just carrying on with the same failed policies. It has never been more true that politicians are all the same and all out for themselves. It is a horrendous situation with seemingly no solution
Like so many when it comes to this (or probably any other) Labour government you are unreasonably impatient. The Tory juggernaut of disaster has hardly had time to stop yet let alone turn round and start to set a better course. Hardly surprising after 14 years of Tory led incompetence and austerity.
Of course it has made mistakes. Trying to treat the U.K. public like grown ups was one of them. What they wanted was not bad news but some pretty things to make them think good times were coming. Instead they got reality in the form of a means tested winter fuel payment, an appalling murder and racist led riots which the always disingenuous and cynical right turned to their own advantage. And cheered by their own lies they haven’t stopped.
Unsurprisingly the good Labour is doing in implementing many of its manifesto promises is going ignored while not just the RW MSM but what ought to be the middle of the road like the BBC pile in.
Can they turn this round in time for the next election? Debatable. Do we need them to? Hell yes.
Agree with a lot of that and you're absolutely right but it's going to take a long time to fix. My concern is that labour walked into a trap set by Hunt when he deliberately and he responsibly cut NI just before the election knowing that the next government would be left with the damage. I know they would have been savaged by the press but painting themselves into a corner by continually stating they would not raise income tax NI or VAT was hugely restricting. But had they argued the case rather than hiding they would still have won the election albeit not with the massive majority. We will never know of course but the obvious thing to do was reverse the NI cut immediately. I can't do it now as they've missed the opportunity.
I’d say that this is a fair and accurate summary. Unfortunately, whilst a step up from his predecessors, I am a little worried that Starmer might be cut from very similar cloth. I hope I am wrong, for all our sakes.
