Interesting piece, good argument. I don't think that Musk will weep at my leaving, I'm doing it for my own sanity, but I'm happy that thick skinned liberal journalists can stay and help him lose more money!

Exactly, a sensible response at last.

That’s about the lamest defence of staying on Twitter I’ve seen yet. By staying, you’re facilitating and appeasing a dangerous megalomaniac. Cancelling my sub.

Lame? I think it is the opposite of lame and bloody hard work too. I could not do it and have left Twitter but some have to stay there and fight.

I left twitter for my own peace of mind. I found myself getting angrier and angrier the more I read. I decided I don't need the hassle. Incidentally, don't you proof read your posts? How did someone not pick up on this ... '' are leaving Twitter, formally known as X. '' ... I think you'll find it's the other way round.

While I agree with leaving twitter for peace of mind, I did so in 2021 or so, "formally known as X" is a pun on formerly. I don't see that the design or culture of twitter has been something which is a force for good, it's just a force for arguments.

So sorry, I completely missed your pun. .

It's not my pun, nor are you the only person who missed it :)

A very valid argument. And for The Lead I completely get it. For individuals trying to navigate an increasingly alarming world it is a different thing. I don’t post on Twitter but I have a sneak peak from time to time just to try to keep up to date and try to make sense of it all. Do I keep doing that or do I delete all together?

Ok - it just out at me!

A refreshing argument and I agree. It does raise the point that we often forget - what are we ourselves in any platform? What are we looking to gain from it?

Will look at the Lead again when you all individually & as an organisation leave Twitter. We need at least to try to destroy Musk’s odious platform.

I think some people need to see the bigger picture and why it is important for some sane people to remain and fight the good fight and also to keep a check on what the hell is going on over there.

I partly see your point - maybe the Guardian’s position (qv) is a good compromise. But I still think private individuals should quit completely and undermine the advertising base of the business.

The advertising base is now completely dead. X only exists through Elon Musk's subsidies (and his investors including the Saudi dictatorship).
